I think people get so wrapped up in movies like this because they want to feel like they can accomplish and overcome anything that gets in their way; They can do great things and have power and strength even when it feels like everything is lost. People are attracted to the types of movies that fulfill something inside of them, whether it be a romantic need for a girl (with a chickflick) or the need of feeling adventure, accomplishment etc Spartacus and Ben Hur are, in my opinion, two of the greatest movies ever made.
